Tottenham rival Chelsea, Manchester City in Theo Hernandez race

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly compete with Chelsea and Manchester City to sign 27-year-old AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Theo Hernandez is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are combing the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the AC Milan full-back. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester City are also keen on signing the French international, who will cost around £30 million.

Theo Hernandez and his AC Milan career so far

Theo Hernandez has established himself as one of the best full-backs in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Real Madrid in July 2019. The Frenchman needed inspiration in his career after failing to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Real Madrid, and he got that at AC Milan.

The 27-year-old has turned out over 250 times thus far for AC Milan while chipping in with 33 goals and 45 assists. However, Hernandez faces an uncertain future at San Siro after entering the final 18 months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing him, with Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Chelsea might dip into the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window. Marc Cucurella is the only recognised left-back in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge, forcing Enzo Maresca to use Malo Gusto in the position. So, Hernandez has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, with AC Milan valuing the French international at around £30 million.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s interest in Theo Hernandez is understandable. Pep Guardiola has no recognised left-backs in his squad, forcing him to use Josko Gvardiol as a left-back. So, the Premier League champions will dip their toes in the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window, with the AC Milan mainstay emerging as a viable target.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, recent reports have linked Destiny Udogie with Manchester City. Even if the Italian international remains at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Lilywhites need an alternative, considering the youngster’s inconsistencies. So, Hernandez is an option worth considering for the North London outfit.

Like Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur should have the funds to afford a deal worth £30 million for Hernandez. It will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old French international lands in the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
