Manchester City, Manchester United have already tested the waters for Ederson

Manchester City and Manchester United have already initiated moves to sign Atalanta’s midfield mainstay Ederson.

According to a report from TuttoSport, Manchester City and Manchester United are both keen on signing Ederson, who has been doing wonders for Atalanta. Both clubs have already tested the waters as they look to get a deal over the line ahead of next season.

Ederson first made a name for himself in the Italian top flight with Salernitana before making the move to Atalanta in the summer of 2022. He has only gone from strength to strength since switching clubs and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A.

While he prefers playing as a central midfielder, the 25-year-old is equally effective in a defensive as well as an attacking role. He played a pivotal role in their Europa League success last season and has been a consistent performer for them over the years.

His work has helped him break into the Brazil national team, and he now seems set for a move to a bigger club. Ederson was on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs last summer as well, but Atalanta somehow managed to hold onto him. But that is unlikely to be the case next summer.

Manchester giants to battle for Ederson

While Juventus are long-term admirers of the 25-year-old, Manchester City and Manchester United are believed to be amongst the front-runners for his signature. Both teams seek more quality in the centre of the park.

City are looking to undergo a rebuild in midfield following a poor season. They want to freshen things up with their key players on the wrong side of 30. Meanwhile, United seek more quality as they look to give Ruben Amorim the players that could help him better implement his style.

Both clubs have been monitoring him for some time now, and they have already initiated a move to bring him to Manchester City. They are ready to push hard for his signature, and since Atalanta rejected a €40 million bid from an English club last summer, they are aware that only a substantial fee could force them to sell one of the best players.
