Manchester City ready to step up interest in Ederson

Manchester City will be ready to ramp up the efforts to sign 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Serie A club Atalanta if they fail to sign Bruno Guimaraes.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Ederson remains the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are eager to reinforce their midfield unit in the summer transfer window. So, Bruno Guimaraes is the top target for the Citizens, and they have identified Atalanta mainstay Ederson as an alternative to the Newcastle United midfielder.

Ederson and his rise at Atalanta

Ederson has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in July 2022. The South American midfielder has gone from strength to strength in the last three and a half years, with his exploits helping him earn his international bow for Brazil.

The 25-year-old has turned out over 100 times thus far for Atalanta while chipping in with 11 goals and four assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe.

Recent reports have linked the Brazilian international with Premier League bigwigs like Manchester City and Manchester United. The former will aim to beat the competition to the Atalanta midfielder’s signature, although the Premier League champions have identified Bruno Guimaraes as their top target.

Premier League adventure beckons?

Manchester City’s interest in Ederson makes sense. While Nico Gonzalez arrived from FC Porto on the deadline day to bolster the Premier League club’s midfield unit, they are in a spot of bother over the long-term futures of other midfielders. Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Kalvin Phillips, and Matheus Nunes might not be with Manchester City next season.

So, the Premier League champions are eager to reinforce their midfield unit again in the summer transfer window, with Bruno Guimaraes emerging as their top target. Meanwhile, Ederson is Manchester City’s alternative to Guimaraes if they fail to land the Newcastle United midfielder.

Atalanta demanded around £50 million to consider parting ways with the Brazilian international in the winter transfer window. Manchester City might not have any qualms about coughing up £50 million to land the 25-year-old. With Newcastle United eager to keep hold of Bruno Guimaraes, they might turn to the Serie A club for midfield reinforcement.
