Manchester City are reportedly pushing hard to win the race for the signature of Sverre Nypan, who is also a target for Arsenal.
Sverre Nypan has made quite a name for himself coming up the ranks at Rosenborg. He is considered to be one of the best young talents in Norway, and quite a few top clubs from across Europe are after his services.
Arsenal have a long-standing interest in him, and they have been scouting him ahead of a potential transfer next summer. But, according to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are looking to beat the Gunners to his signature.
Nypan joined the Rosenborg youth setup at the start of 2021. In a year’s time, he got promoted to their first team and has not looked back since. The central midfielder has been a consistent performer for their senior side.
The teenage sensation has featured in a total of 60 matches, and he has contributed towards 24 goals (13 goals, 11 assists). While the majority of his appearances have come in his preferred position, he has been used in a deeper role, a touch higher up in midfield as well as a number nine.
The 18-year-old’s performances have already put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs. Sverre Nypan has massive potential and it is one of the major reasons why two of the biggest clubs in England are after his signature.
Arsenal and Manchester City to battle for Nypan
While Arsenal have been linked with Sverre Nypan for some time now, they will face significant competition from the City Group. Both parties were keen on signing him during the winter window but the player decided to continue at Rosenborg until the end of the season.
The Norwegian sensation is expected to be on the move in the summer, and it will be interesting to see who ends up winning the race for him. The Gunners see him as an ideal option to add much-needed depth to their midfield. They want to bet on him for the long run.
While the City Group were initially looking to sign him for Girona, they are now ready to incorporate him into Guardiola’s team. With the futures of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan uncertain, Manchester City are looking to revamp their midfield, and they feel Nypan could play a role in City’s first team.
They are hoping the opportunity to play with countrymen Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb could persuade him to join them ahead of Arsenal. As far as Rosenborg are concerned, they are looking for less than £20 million, which should not be a problem for either club. They are ready to let the teenager choose his next destination as long as their demands are met.
