Bayern Munich will reportedly compete with Chelsea to sign 21-year-old Spanish midfield prospect Pablo Barrios from La Liga club Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Pablo Barrios is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The Atletico Madrid midfielder is also a target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window. However, the Spanish giants are not ready to part ways with the 21-year-old midfield prospect, and they will point to his release clause of €100 million.
The rapid rise of Pablo Barrios at Atletico Madrid
Pablo Barrios has established himself as one of the best young prospects in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Atletico Madrid. A former trainee in Real Madrid’s fabled La Fabrica division, the Spaniard ended his formative years with Atletico Madrid before making his senior bow for Los Rojiblancos in the early days of the 2022/23 season.
The 21-year-old has not looked back since then, establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at Estadio Metropolitano and becoming a regular in Diego Simeone’s team. The youngster has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Los Rojiblancos while chipping in with three goals and five assists.
Barrios’s exploits for Atletico Madrid have helped him break into his national team, and he made his bow for Spain in the most recent international break. Meanwhile, the Spanish midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
High in demand
Chelsea’s interest in Pablo Barrios makes sense. The West London club might part ways with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the summer transfer window, while Carney Chukwuemeka and Andrey Santos might seal permanent moves away from Stamford Bridge. So, Chelsea can do with a new midfielder, with Barrios emerging as a viable target.
As for Bayern Munich, Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka face an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Bavarian giants need a new midfielder, with Barrios being an option worth considering.
However, Atletico Madrid will be reluctant to part ways with the 21-year-old Spaniard in the summer transfer window, and they will point to his release clause of €100 million to sell him. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Spanish midfielder amid his links with Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
