2Liverpool will compete with Barcelona and Chelsea in the race to land the services of 27-year-old Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Alan Nixon of The Sun, Gregor Kobel is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are surprisingly scouring the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Barcelona and Chelsea are also keen on signing the 27-year-old Borussia Dortmund shot-stopper.
Gregor Kobel and his Borussia Dortmund diary
Gregor Kobel has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga since joining Borussia Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart in July 2021. While the experienced goalkeeper was already in Germany for seven years before moving to Signal Iduna Park, his stock has skyrocketed during his spell with the Black and Yellows.
The 27-year-old has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Borussia Dortmund while keeping 47 clean sheets and conceding close to 200 goals. Meanwhile, Kobel’s progress at the Bundesliga club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
A man in demand
Barcelona will likely dip into the market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window amid the advancing years of Marc-Andre ter Stegen. In addition, Wojciech Szczesny’s short stint with Barcelona might end after the 2024/25 season culminates. So, the Swiss international is a viable target for the Blaugrana.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Gregor Kobel is baffling. Enzo Maresca has several goalkeepers in his squad, and while Robert Sanchez has been dreadful this season, it does not make sense for Chelsea to launch the offensive for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. Nevertheless, Kobel is a solid option for Chelsea.
As for Liverpool, it is unclear why the Reds are mulling over signing the Swiss international in the summer transfer window. Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive from Valencia in a few months, while Alisson Becker remains a dependable performer between the sticks. So, it is difficult to see how Kobel fits into Liverpool’s scheme of things.
The report has claimed that the 27-year-old Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper will be highly sought-after in the market in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see where he lands in the coming months.
