Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old Spanish midfield prospect Sergi Altimira from La Liga club Real Betis.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sergi Altimira remains the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Real Betis midfield prospect has emerged as a target for the Citizens.
The rise of Sergi Altimira at Real Betis?
Sergi Altimira has established himself as one of the best young midfield prospects in La Liga since joining Real Betis from Getafe in August 2023. The move has helped the Spaniard find his feet after struggling for stability upon leaving Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy in 2019.
The 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength in the last 18 months, becoming a mainstay in the middle of the park for Real Betis. The youngster has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for Los Verdiblancos while chipping in with two goals and one assist.
Meanwhile, the Spanish midfield prospect’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known outfits across Europe. Premier League clubs, in particular, are keen on signing the Real Betis midfielder, with Manchester City among the prospective suitors for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester City mulled over signing Sergi Altimira in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest in the Real Betis midfielder makes sense, even though Rodri will likely return when the 2025/26 season begins, while Nico Gonzalez arrived from FC Porto on the deadline day.
With Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, and Kalvin Phillips facing an uncertain future at the Etihad, Manchester City can do with a new midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, Altimira has emerged as a viable target for the reigning Premier League champions, with the opportunity to move to the Etihad being appealing for the 23-year-old Spaniard.
However, Real Betis will be reluctant to part ways with the Spanish midfield prospect in the summer transfer window. That said, an attractive bid by Manchester City might be too hard to resist for the Andalusian outfit and the player.
