Manchester City have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Real Madrid defensive target Andrea Cambiaso.
Andrea Cambiaso’s impressive performances for Juventus have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Real Madrid and Manchester City are two clubs that are keen on acquiring his services.
But, according to a report from DefensaCentral, Los Blancos are not willing to meet the Old Lady’s demands for the services of the Italian full-back. The Spanish giants’ stance is a massive boost for Pep Guardiola’s City who would love to have the 24-year-old in their squad ahead of next season.
Cambiaso made the move to Juventus in the summer of 2022. While he did spend the first season out on loan at Bologna, he has been a key figure in the Turin-based club’s first-team over the last two seasons.
The left-back has been involved in 28 games this season and has racked up over 2,000 minutes. He has even contributed towards four goals. The Italian international has made quite a name for himself with his performances and clubs are now looking to prise him away.
Real Madrid are one of the clubs that are keen on signing the young full-back. While Los Blancos already have two top-quality left-backs in Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, they are looking for an upgrade in that position.
Alphonso Davies was their priority target but he ended up extending his stay at Bayern Munich. As a result, the Spanish giants have been forced to look elsewhere and Cambiaso is seen as an ideal fit for their team.
City ahead of Real Madrid in race for Cambiaso
While he is quite popular at the Spanish club and they are monitoring him closely, the financial side of things could complicate a potential transfer. Meanwhile, Manchester City are also keen on his signature and they could benefit from a situation where Real Madrid takes the back seat.
The English giants do not have an out-and-out left-back in their squad and they have been looking to address that issue for some time. They like Cambiaso and did knock on Juventus’ door for him in January. But, with the player’s contract running until the summer of 2029, the Old Lady demanded a massive fee worth €70 million.
City did table an offer worth €60 million but it was turned down as the Italian club were not ready to lower their demands. While Guardiola’s team could return for his signature, Los Blancos have intentions of forking out that big a fee to bolster a position that is already well covered with Mendy and Garcia in the team. Madrid’s stance could be a massive boost for City who are expected to reignite their interest next summer.
