Manchester City have reportedly shelved the idea of signing Andrea Cambiaso in this window as they could return for the Juventus star in the summer.
According to Calciomercato, Manchester City are set to shelve their plans for Andrea Cambiaso until the summer. The Premier League champions were eager to sign the left-back in this window, but multiple factors could have ensured they pushed the pursuit for the summer.
Juventus did surprise many fo their fans as they showed an inclination to talk business with Manchester City for Andrea Cambiaso. While Pep Guardiola’s side are stacked on that side of the pitch, it is the Italian’s versatility to play in different wide positions that may have attracted the idea of signing him.
Manchester City were eager to seal a move quickly earlier in the month, but there were complications early on as Juventus were looking for a replacement that would elevate their quality. The Bianconeri were also put in a spot as Danilo was looking to leave, meaning they could not let Cambiaso leave without a proper replacement coming in his place.
Juventus also wanted a monstrous offer, which the report states to be in the region of €80 million. Manchester City do have the financial capacity to make such transactions, although they tend not to overpay for any player beyond what they feel is the market value.
Manchester City were expected to hold fresh talks for Andrea Cambiaso. However, it appears they have now shelved the idea of signing the €80 million-rated Italian international and could focus on him once again in the summer. The reasons for the club halting the chase would point towards Juventus’s asking price and the player’s recent ankle injury, which is not considered serious but worth monitoring.
Manchester City could make a deadline-day signing
Manchester City have had a strong window so far as Guardiola addressed some key areas of his squad. He did bring two inexperienced yet talented young defenders as Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis arrived from RC Lens and Palmeiras, respectively. Then the club announced the capture of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in a mega deal, as Guardiola sought a Julian Alvarez replacement six months later.
Manchester City are also chasing Nico Gonzalez from FC Porto to address their midfield issues following Rodri’s season-ending injury. There is an insistence from the Portuguese side to receive his full €60 million release clause, as talks are underway between the two clubs to find a solution.
