Manchester United hold talks to sign Leon Bailey

Manchester United have held talks for Aston Villa star Leon Bailey ahead of the transfer deadline day, with the move slightly baffling given their profile.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are in talks for Leon Baily over a move on deadline day. Aston Villa’s stance on this chase remains unknown, although Unai Emery may stay cautious over losing another attacker on the final day of the transfer market.

Manchester United are in talks for Leon Bailey, which could be a bit baffling given the Jamaican plays on the right wing. The Aston Villa star can also equally operate on the left wing, which does make the case as a replacement for Aston Villa-bound Marcus Rashford.

The nature of the deal remains unclear at this point, although it’s believed that Aston Villa could demand a permanent move for the Jamaican. Unai Emery’s side are also angling a move for Marco Asensio, which does allow them to cover for any more attacking losses, given they have decided to sell Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr.

Manchester United would be looking at Bailey as a quality addition to their side, although any move will eventually depend on the player. The versatile wide player has the opportuity to play Champions League football at Aston Villa, which will make up for a tough call on his future.

Florian Plettenberg also mentions the idea of Christopher Nkunku, a player linked with Manchester United, earlier in this window. The journalist says that the Frenchman could still be achievable, as the Red Devils will likely sign only one of the Chelsea or Aston Villa stars.

Manchester United moving with poise in the window

Having secured the signing of Patrick Dorgu, who is seen as a suitable left wing-back by Ruben Amorin, the Portuguese manager is keen on strengthening the attacking areas further. They are in the mix for Mathys Tel, with talks progressing with Bayern Munich as things stand over a loan deal.

Manchester United also have a deal in place for Geovany Quenda as per reports, which does make for a case to strengthen their right wing-back position for next summer. The Bailey conversation is strange but interesting from the club’s point of view. Amorim might want an experienced attacker to come in like him or Nkunku to replace the departing Rashford.
