Patrick Dorgu has joined Manchester United from US Lecce, with the Red Devils completing their first winter signing in a deal worth an initial £25 million plus £4.1 million in add-ons.
Manchester United have made an official statement to confirm that Patrick Dorgu has arrived at Old Trafford. The Red Devils have signed the highly-rated wide player from Serie A outfit US Lecce, with the youngster signing a five-and-a-half-year contract at the Premier League club.
A report by the BBC has shed further light on the agreement between Manchester United and US Lecce. The Red Devils have coughed up a base fee of £25 million to sign the Dane, with the deal also including add-ons worth £4.1 million. Dorgu expressed his delight at completing the move as Manchester United’s first signing of the winter transfer window.
Patrick Dorgu said, “I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family. I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting. There is a clear plan set out for my development, and I feel that Manchester United is the perfect place to fulfil my potential and complete my huge ambitions.”
The Danish international has been one of the best young prospects in Serie A since joining US Lecce from Nordsjaelland in 2022. The 20-year-old wide player spent two and a half years with the Italian club and showed promise as a full-back and a winger. So, it was hardly surprising that high-profile clubs joined the race to sign the youngster, with Manchester United winning the race to secure his services.
It is understandable why Manchester United wanted to sign Patrick Dorgu. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were barely available for the 2023/24 season, and the Red Devils have played without an out-and-out left-back for most of the last 18 months.
So, the Premier League heavyweights dipped their toes in the market for a new left wing-back, with Dorgu emerging as a top target for the winter transfer window. With Manchester United ready to sanction a loan exit for Malacia, they expedited the move for the 20-year-old Dane, who has arrived at Old Trafford.
