Crystal Palace fail with approach for Strahinja Pavlovic

Serie A giants AC Milan have reportedly turned down an enquiry by Crystal Palace for 23-year-old Serbian defensive prospect Strahinja Pavlovic.

According to an update by the reliable Sami Mokbel, Strahinja Pavlovic is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. However, the Eagles have failed with their approach for the AC Milan defender, with the Serie A giants knocking back the enquiry for the 23-year-old defensive prospect. The deal is “off as things stand”.

Who is Strahinja Pavlovic?

Strahinja Pavlovic has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Serie A since joining AC Milan from Red Bull Salzburg last summer. A native of Šabac, the Serb spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at three clubs and graduating from the youth division at FK Partizan Belgrade.

Since leaving Partizan Belgrade, the 23-year-old has represented clubs in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy, with the latest adventure coming with Serie A giants AC Milan. While the young defensive prospect has not been an undisputed first-choice starter for the Rossoneri, he has made his mark whenever he has taken the field.

The Serbian international has turned out 18 times thus far this season while chipping in with one goal and two assists. Meanwhile, Pavlovic’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, with Crystal Palace among his prospective suitors in the winter transfer window.

London calling?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Strahinja Pavlovic is understandable. The Eagles have been scouring the market for a centre-back since losing Trevoh Chalobah after Chelsea terminated his loan deal. In addition, Chadi Riad is a long-term absentee for Crystal Palace due to a knee injury.

So, several candidates, including Tiago Djalo, have emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Pavlovic also emerging as a viable target. However, the Eagles must look elsewhere for an alternative, with Serie A giants AC Milan knocking back their enquiry for the 23-year-old Serb.

Interestingly, AC Milan defenders were in demand among London clubs, with Fikayo Tomori rejecting an approach from Tottenham Hotspur last week. As for Crystal Palace, it will be interesting to see who becomes the top target for the South London club in the final hours of the winter transfer window.
