Crystal Palace considering last-ditch move for Tiago Djalo

Crystal Palace are considering a late move for defender Tiago Djalo, who is currently at FC Porto on loan from Juventus.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are set to scramble late in the window for a new centre-back, with Tiago Djalo being the latest on their list. The Portuguese centre-back, currently playing with FC Porto on loan from Juventus, is a quality alternative to some of their current first-choice targets.

Crystal Palace probably did not think about being in the race for a new centre-back in this market, as they had their options at the back sorted. Chelsea’s decision to recall key starter Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Selhurst Park put the South London club in a spot of bother, as they are significantly weakened without the English defender.

Since Chalobah’s swift return to Stamford Bridge, the Eagles are in the hunt for a new centre-back, with a host of options mentioned throughout the month. FC Midtjylland’s Ousmane Diao was a target and could still be in the mix for a transfer if Crystal Palace can get a deal in place.

Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi is also a target, while AC Milan’s Stahinja Pavlovic appears as their priority target. The Rossoneri are demanding close to £35 million for the centre-back, and Palace, with their financial power, could potentially go very close to that valuation. However, any move will also depend on the player’s preference in mid-season.

Should they not achieve one of their priority targets, Crystal Palace already have an alternative name on their list in Tiago Djalo. The price point around the 24-year-old Portuguese defender remains unclear at this point, although he could be available in the market given he only has 18 months left on his current deal at parent club Juventus.

Crystal Palace target Tiago Djalo

Djalo is currently on loan with FC Porto, where he is not a regular in the side, managing only five league appearances so far this season. Juventus could be compelled to decide on the 24-year-old Portuguese defender should Crystal Palace offer favourable terms, either on a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

It remains to be seen whether there is enough time in the market to get his cancellation with Porto sorted before he heads to Crystal Palace. The bigger question is whether the Eagles view Tiago Djalo as a priority signing over others, as there are plenty of indications that any chase would be a last-ditch attempt from the Londoners for the 24-year-old Portuguese defender.
