Aston Villa halt talks to sign Axel Disasi

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi has been linked with a move away from the West London club this month amid his links with Manchester United.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Axel Disasi, and reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Aston Villa have stopped talks to sign the French defender.

The Frenchman is reportedly keen on joining the West Midlands club, and he is unwilling to move to Tottenham. However, the North London club have already agreed on a deal with Chelsea to sign the player. It remains to be seen how the situation develops now, considering Spurs have cooled their interest as well.

Aston Villa have cooled their interest in the player, and the defender will need to join Tottenham if he wants to play regularly for the remainder of the season, although that does not seem possible. Disasi has struggled for regular game time at Chelsea, and he needs to play more often at this stage of his career. Sitting on the bench at Chelsea is unlikely to be an appealing option for him.

Tottenham need more depth in their central defensive unit, and the French international could prove to be a quality acquisition. It remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done. The fact that Aston Villa have stopped talks to sign the player will as a major boost for the Londoners.

There have been reports that Chelsea are unwilling to let the player join Aston Villa because they are competing with the West Midlands club for Champions League qualification. They do not want to strengthen a direct rival this month.

Aston Villa need to move on quickly

It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa decide to move on to other targets. They need to add more quality and depth to the defensive unit. The Villans have looked vulnerable at the back of this season, and they need to tighten up if they want to finish the season strongly.

Aston Villa have improved their attacking unit this month, and signing a quality defender could wrap up an impressive window for them. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old defender will look to sort out his future quickly. The transfer window closes later today, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
