Arsenal will unlikely continue the bid to sign 19-year-old French attacking sensation Mathys Tel from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Mathys Tel no longer remains the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners have been exploring a move for the Bayern Munich whizkid in the winter transfer window, with Manchester United also vying for his signature. However, neither club will secure his services this month.
Mathys Tel and his Bayern Munich misery
Mathys Tel has been one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Stade Rennais in July 2022. The Frenchman was one of the most promising prodigies in his homeland and has been a reliable performer for the Bavarian outfit. However, regular game time has not been forthcoming for him in the last two and a half years.
The 19-year-old has amassed 16 goals and seven assists in less than 2,500 minutes of game time across 83 appearances thus far for Bayern Munich. However, the struggles for game time have left the French wonderkid frustrated, and he wants to leave Bayern Munich before the winter transfer window shuts down.
Meanwhile, Tel’s progress has not gone unnoticed, and his situation has piqued the attention of Premier League bigwigs like Manchester United and Arsenal. However, the Red Devils have already failed with bids to sign the French attacking sensation, with the latest development boosting Arsenal’s prospects.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester United wanted to sign Mathys Tel after sanctioning Marcus Rashford and Antony’s loan departures in the winter transfer window. In addition, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled in the final third. So, Manchester United needed a new attacker this month, with the Bayern Munich wonderkid emerging as a viable target.
As for Arsenal, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have blown hot and cold in the final third. In addition, the latter is a long-term absentee due to a knee injury. So, Tel has been an option worth considering for Arsenal. However, the Gunners are cooling their interest in the 19-year-old Frenchman.
While Arsenal will continue scouring the market for a new attacker, a deal for Tel will unlikely see the light of day. So, it will be interesting to see who bolsters the North London club’s offensive unit before the winter transfer window shuts down on Monday.
