Manchester United increasingly unlikely to sign Mathys Tel after failed bids as Arsenal prepare move

Manchester United are reportedly increasingly unlikely to sign 19-year-old French attacking sensation Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, while Arsenal will push for a late deal.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Mathys Tel will unlikely join Manchester United before the winter transfer window shuts down. While the Bayern Munich attacking sensation is keen on joining the Premier League club, the Red Devils have been unable to find common ground with the Bavarian outfit over a deal for the 19-year-old wonderkid.

A report by The Guardian has revealed that Manchester United failed with two loan bids to sign the Frenchman, while Sky Sports claimed that Bayern Munich would only part ways with him on a permanent deal or a loan with a purchase obligation clause. Meanwhile, Miguel Delaney has suggested that United’s impasse has cleared the way for Arsenal to sign Tel from Bayern Munich.

Mathys Tel and his Bayern Munich woes

Mathys Tel has been one of the best young attacking prospects in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Stade Rennais in July 2022. While the youngster has struggled for regular game time, he has made his mark whenever he has taken the field.

The 19-year-old has amassed 16 goals and seven assists in less than 2,500 minutes of game time across 83 appearances thus far for Bayern Munich. However, the lack of game time has frustrated the French wonderkid, who wants to leave Bayern Munich before the winter transfer window shuts down. The situation has piqued the attention of Premier League bigwigs like Manchester United and Arsenal.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Mathys Tel is understandable. Marcus Rashford has joined Aston Villa, while Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled for productivity in the final third. So, the Bayern Munich whizkid has emerged as a viable target, with the youngster pushing to join Manchester United. However, a deal will unlikely see the light of day.

The latest update has boosted Arsenal’s prospects, with the North London outfit pushing for a last-gasp move for the 19-year-old Frenchman. Miguel Delaney has suggested that Bayern Munich’s rejection of Manchester United’s loan bids has cleared the way for Arsenal to sign Tel.

With Kai Havertz blowing hot and cold, Mikel Arteta can do with another striker, especially with Gabriel Jesus being a long-term absentee. However, it is unclear if Arsenal can strike a late deal to beat Manchester United to the youngster’s signature.
