Arsenal are still on the case of Mathys Tel despite Manchester United being reported to be the preferred destination for the attacker.
According to TBR, Mathys Tel remains on the list of Arsenal’s potential targets ahead of deadline day despite the attacker’s decision on a move. Manchester United are considered the Frenchman’s preferred target as per the latest update, but the Gunners still have a chance to make their case.
Arsenal will enter the final day of the transfer window with fans hoping to hear good news at the end of it. Mikel Arteta has been chasing a new attacker all window, and they have only made the case on one player, Ollie Watkins, as Aston Villa rejected their offer back on Wednesday.
The striker position is understandably key for Arteta to bring reinforcements in the role, as they remain hopeful of landing Watkins on the final day. They also have an alternative in mind, as there were links to Mathys Tel when the attacker was seemingly made available in the market. Arsenal are among a host of teams chasing the Frenchman.
Arsenal are in the mix for Tel, although the 19-year-old recently chose to stay at Bayern after rejecting Tottenham. Manchester United have presented an attractive project to the Frenchman, and as per Florian Plettenberg, Tel wants to join the Red Devils, who have made an approach for a straight loan.
Florian Plettenberg goes on to explain the situation, suggesting that Bayern have rejected a loan proposal from Manchester United, as the Bavarians are reportedly pushing for a buy obligation or sell the player permanently. Whether the Red Devils are open to such a proposition remains to be seen, meaning the race for the young attacker remains open.
Arsenal to make Mathys Tel offer?
As per Plettenberg, Arsenal are already in talks with Bayern and Tel’s entourage over a move. The player does not block the idea of joining the Gunners despite his internal decision to join Manchester United. The race is very much on for the Frenchman, as this race promises fireworks on the final day of the window.
Any move from Arsenal will depend on whether they can commit themselves towards bringing Tel on a permanent basis. Bayern Munich did agree a sale with Tottenham before the player rejected the idea, whhich has made their stance clear on the 19-year-old Manchester United target, as they would at last prefer a buy obligation on any loan proposal.
