London giants Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly submitted a surprise enquiry for 27-year-old Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku over a late winter move.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Christopher Nkunku is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants have submitted a shock enquiry to sign the disgruntled Chelsea forward before the winter transfer window shuts down on Monday. The Blues are open to parting ways with the French international this month.
Christopher Nkunku and his Chelsea issues
Christopher Nkunku has endured a frustrating stint since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £52 million in July 2023. The Frenchman arrived at Stamford Bridge with a burgeoning reputation after setting the stage alight in the Bundesliga. However, fitness issues and intense competition for places have hampered his progress at the West Midlands club.
The 27-year-old has been the preferred choice whenever Enzo Maresca has fielded his second-string side, having been a regular in the UEFA Europa Conference League and EFL Cup. Nkunku has been exceptional in his limited opportunities this term, amassing 13 goals and four assists in 1,208 minutes of game time across 29 appearances in all competitions.
However, the French attacker’s frustrations have boiled over due to a lack of game time in the Premier League, and he has been pushing to leave Chelsea in the winter transfer window. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward has no shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with Tottenham Hotspur among his prospective suitors in the winter transfer window.
Move across London on the horizon?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Christopher Nkunku is understandable. The Lilywhites have been scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window amid an injury crisis at the North London club. So, several candidates, including Mathys Tel, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar.
However, while Tottenham sealed a verbal agreement to sign Tel, the Frenchman rejected the North London outfit. So, Nkunku has emerged as an alternative, with Tottenham submitting an audacious enquiry to sign the disgruntled Chelsea forward.
The 27-year-old French international’s versatility makes him an appealing target for the Lilywhites amid their injury crisis. Meanwhile, Nkunku is not the only Chelsea player on Tottenham’s radar, with recent reports linking the North London outfit with Axel Disasi.
