Manchester City turn down four £30 million bids for James McAtee

Bayer Leverkusen, FSV Mainz 05, RB Leipzig, and VfB Stuttgart submitted bids worth around £30 million to sign James McAtee from Manchester City.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, James McAtee has had suitors from the Bundesliga launch the offensive to secure his services. Bayer Leverkusen, FSV Mainz 05, RB Leipzig, and VfB Stuttgart submitted bids worth around £30 million to sign the Manchester City playmaker. However, the Premier League champions have rejected the offers, with Pep Guardiola rating him highly.

James McAtee and his Manchester City woes

James McAtee has had to bide his time since breaking into the first-team squad at Manchester City a few years ago. A native of Salford, the Englishman’s most fulfilling spells have come during his loan stints with Sheffield United, having been a pivotal figure for the Blades for two years.

However, the 22-year-old has endured a frustrating wait for regular game time at Manchester City, managing only 507 minutes in 14 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with five goals. While Pep Guardiola rates the youngster highly, intense competition for places has been his bane at Manchester City.

However, McAtee’s stock in the market remains high, with several well-known teams across Europe setting their sights on him. Many Premier League clubs are keen on signing the English playmaker, while Bundesliga outfits like Bayer Leverkusen, FSV Mainz 05, RB Leipzig, and VfB Stuttgart have submitted bids to secure his services.

Bundesliga move on the horizon?

Bayer Leverkusen’s interest in James McAtee might have ended after signing Emiliano Buendia. However, Graeme Bailey has suggested that the Bundesliga champions offered around £30 million to sign the 22-year-old Englishman. The other three German top-flight outfits also submitted bids of around £30 million to secure his services.

However, McAtee, who Pep Guardiola rates highly, might not leave Manchester City in the winter transfer window despite his struggles for game time this season. The Premier League champions have rejected all four Bundesliga bids, and selling the young playmaker is not on the cards.

So, McAtee must continue to bide his time at the Etihad and hope opportunities come his way. However, a winter departure from the Etihad might not see the light of day for the highly-rated English playmaker.
