Manchester City might look to sign 26-year-old Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk from La Liga club Girona if Erling Haaland leaves the club.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Artem Dovbyk is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions are scouring the market for a striker if Erling Haaland leaves the club. The Girona striker has thus emerged as a viable target for the Citizens.
The rise of Artem Dovbyk this season
Artem Dovbyk has established himself as one of the best strikers in La Liga since joining Girona from SK Dnipro-1 last summer. A native of Cherkasy, he spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the youth division at Cherkaskyi Dnipro.
The 26-year-old had to wait until he joined Girona to rise in prominence and find a stable footing in his career. Dovbyk was one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, amassing 25 goals and ten assists in 41 appearances across all competitions while winning the Pichichi Trophy for scoring the most goals in La Liga.
Meanwhile, Dovbyk will represent Ukraine at UEFA Euro 2024, hoping to continue rising in prominence. The Ukrainian international’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, especially from the Premier League. And Manchester City will target him if Erling Haaland leaves.
Premier League move in the pipeline?
Manchester City’s interest in Artem Dovbyk is understandable. The Premier League champions are not interested in selling the Norwegian international in the summer transfer window. While a departure will unlikely see the light of day this year, a future move can still materialise, with Real Madrid interested in him.
Meanwhile, the Premier League champions have prioritised tying the 23-year-old to a new contract. If that does not materialise and Haaland leaves, Manchester City will turn to Dovbyk, although the Girona striker will not move to the Etihad in the summer transfer window.
Any move to Manchester City for the 25-year-old Ukrainian international will only see the light of day next summer at the earliest. It will be interesting to see if the Premier League champions succeed in tying Haaland to a new long-term contract, in which case Dovbyk will not move to the Etihad.
