Newcastle United continue talks with Lloyd Kelly

Newcastle United reportedly remain in talks to sign 25-year-old Bournemouth Lloyd Kelly after losing the race to sign Tosin Adarabioyo.

According to an update from Sky Sports, Lloyd Kelly remains the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. While they have lost the race to sign Tosin Adarabioyo, they are still in talks to secure the services of the 25-year-old Bournemouth defender.

Lloyd Kelly and his Bournemouth journey

Lloyd Kelly has been a pivotal figure for Bournemouth since arriving from Bristol City in July 2019. A graduate of the Bristol City youth division, the Englishman has risen in prominence during his spell with the Cherries, going from strength to strength in the last half a decade.

The 25-year-old has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Bournemouth, chipping in with three goals and eight assists. However, Kelly has played his final game for the Premier League club and will depart from the Vitality Stadium as a free agent on July 1. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

A move across the Premier League is on the cards, with several English bigwigs keen on signing him on a Bosman move. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in the English centre-back. However, Newcastle United are the front-runners to secure his services in the summer transfer window.

Big move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Lloyd Kelly is understandable. The Magpies are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. They have lost Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles to long-term injuries, with the duo on the sidelines until next year.

So, several central defenders have emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, and they had been keen on completing Bosman moves for Tosin Adarabioyo and Lloyd Kelly. However, Adarabioyo is on the verge of joining Chelsea. Meanwhile, the Magpies remain in talks with Kelly over a possible free transfer.

Newcastle United will be desperate not to lose the race to secure Lloyd Kelly’s services in the summer transfer window after Chelsea beat them to Tosin Adarabioyo’s signature. It will be interesting to see if the 25-year-old Englishman moves to St. James’ Park in a Bosman move.
