Newcastle United will look to sign 25-year-old Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly in the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to a report by HITC, Newcastle United are keen on reinforcing their defence ahead of next season and have their eyes set on Lloyd Kelly. The Magpies want to ensure they have enough depth and quality in the heart of the defence and are looking to sign the 25-year-old in a bargain deal.

Lloyd Kelly’s time at Bournemouth to end soon

Kelly came up the ranks at Bristol City before joining Bournemouth in the summer of 2019. He hasn’t looked back since making the move and has been an integral part of their first team over the past few seasons.

Injuries have troubled him in the ongoing season as he has only featured in 17 matches. Despite recent injury concerns, there is still a lot of interest in the 25-year-old’s services.

His contract with the Cherries runs out in the summer and he is unlikely to pen down a new deal. Kelly will be available as a free agent in a few months time and Newcastle United are looking to profit from the situation.

Newcastle United’s injury crisis at the back

The Magpies were already in the market for a centre-back with Sven Botman picking up a long-term injury. But, it seems things have gone from bad to worse for them as Jamaal Lascelles has joined him on the sidelines.

The Newcastle skipper has sustained a serious knee injury which will keep him out for around nine months. The 30-year-old’s injury has forced the Magies to amend their plans for the summer and now they are looking to bring in two new centre-backs.

Fabian Schar is the only out-and-out first-choice centre-back available to Eddie Howe. While they do have Dan Burn who can switch back into central defence from left-back and Paul Dummett who can provide support, Howe is keen on having more depth and quality.

As a result, the Magpies are pushing for Kelly’s signatures. They are all set to step up their interest in the soon-to-be free agent’s services. He will not only add depth to their central defence, but the 25-year-old is equally capable of featuring as a left-back giving the Howe more options to work with.
