Darwin Nunez dreaming of Barcelona summer move

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez reportedly dreams of joining Barcelona from the Merseyside club in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Paisley Gates, Darwin Nunez is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Uruguayan international has handed the Blaugrana a boost as he dreams about moving to the Catalan club from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Darwin Nunez and his Liverpool story so far

Darwin Nunez has been a reasonably successful signing for Liverpool since arriving from Benfica in July 2022. The Merseyside club coughed up £64.5 million and handed the Uruguayan striker £140,000-a-week wages. While the transfer fee is high, he has justified his salary by being productive in the final third.

The 24-year-old has come under fire due to his wastefulness in front of the goal. However, Nunez has still contributed to more than 30 goals thus far this season, finding the back of the net 18 times while providing 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Nunez’s stock remains high in the market.

Widespread reports have heavily linked the Liverpool striker with several high-profile clubs, particularly from La Liga. Atletico Madrid might launch the offensive to sign the former Benfica striker. However, his next destination might be Barcelona, with Nunez dreaming about joining the Blaugrana.

Will Nunez complete his dream move?

Barcelona’s interest in Darwin Nunez is understandable. Robert Lewandowski is approaching the twilight of his illustrious career and has started showing signs of age catching up with him. So, it behoves Barcelona to plot a succession plan for the Polish international, with several candidates emerging as targets.

However, the Liverpool striker is also an option worth considering for Barcelona. Recent reports have claimed that the 24-year-old is inching closer to joining the Blaugrana. And the latest update has further boosted Barcelona’s prospects. In addition, the Catalan giants have enough funds to afford his £140,000-a-week wages.

However, Liverpool will likely demand a premium to part ways with the Uruguayan international, considering he is on a long-term contract and cost £64.5 million. That might put a spanner in the works for the financially-stricken Barcelona. So, it will be interesting to see if Nunez can realise his dream in the summer transfer window.
