Darwin Nunez inches closer to joining Barcelona

Darwin Nunez has been linked with a summer move away from Liverpool, with Barcelona interested in signing him.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Paisley Gates, Darwin Nunez is now inching closer to a move to Barcelona. The 24-year-old has had his fair share of criticism this season despite scoring 18 goals and picking up 13 assists in all competitions for Liverpool.

Nunez remains a very useful player for Liverpool. But his finishing often leaves a lot to be desired. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to sell him and bring in a quality replacement this summer. There is no doubt that the Reds could use a better finisher next season, and the departure of Nunez will allow them to spend big money on another striker.

The South American forward currently earns £140,000 per week in wages at Liverpool, and his departure will reduce the wage bill as well. Nunez has been linked with Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid as well.

It is no secret that Barcelona need to bring in attacking reinforcements, and the 24-year-old could prove to be a useful option in the attack. The Liverpool attacker is versatile enough to operate anywhere across the front three, and he will add pace, flair and goals to the side.

The Uruguayan international is perhaps best suited to the role of a wide forward where he can chip in with goals, assists and he wont be expected to be a prolific finisher either. It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks.

Will Liverpool let Darwin Nunez leave?

Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move away from Liverpool as well. It seems unlikely that Liverpool will sell multiple first-team stars in one summer. The Reds are already losing their charismatic manager, and they will not want to weaken the squad as well.

Salah and Nunez have scored the most amount of goals for Liverpool this season, and if the Egyptian moves on in the summer, it would be quite surprising if Nunez is allowed to leave as well. In theory, it would be an interesting acquisition for Barcelona if they can get the deal done. The 24-year-old is a versatile attacker who has the quality to succeed in La Liga.

He has done reasonably well in the Premier League since joining Liverpool. The opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in the world will be quite tempting for the player as well. However, Liverpool paid a substantial amount of money when they signed him from Benfica and they are likely to demand a premium. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can afford the player.
