Ian Maatsen keen on sealing Chelsea exit this summer

Ian Maatsen remains eager to leave Chelsea permanently and desires to join Borussia Dortmund in the summer after receiving a terrific loan.

According to Football Insider, Ian Maatsen wants a permanent exit from Chelsea in the summer and is keen to remain at Borussia Dortmund. The Dutch prospect has a £35 million release clause in his deal, with the two clubs set to hold talks over his future shortly.

Ian Maatsen wants Chelsea exit

Ian Maatsen was considered a big prospect by Chelsea when they showed reluctance to sell him last summer. He had come back from a successful loan spell with Burnley, where he won the EFL Championship and helped the Clarets gain promotion.

However, the youngster was not the first choice at Chelsea when the season began, resulting in just 376 minutes of first-team action. His unhappiness at the club resulted in a loan switch to Borussia Dortmund, where he has established himself as a key starter, making 19 appearances and helping the Bundesliga outfit reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

Maatsen has wanted a permanent switch to Signal Iduna Park since his days on loan. The idea of the £35 million-rated prospect may still materialise, as the German giants are also keen to figure out a way to sign him in the summer, although the price tag may be an issue.

Dortmund will open talks with Chelsea to discuss the transfer of Maatsen, as they will have more clarity on their finances after qualifying for next season’s Champions League. However, there are doubts whether they will pay in full for the £35 million-rated prospect, which is why they are keen to negotiate the price down in the summer.

Will Chelsea sell Maatsen for less?

Given Chelsea’s tussle with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, their owners will want total value for their player and ensured they retained Maatsen’s value when the player signed a two-year extension before his switch to Dortmund. Should they receive the full £35 million, the situation might improve. But could there be a late twist in the tale?

Chelsea need to raise massive funds before the end of June, which will give buying clubs a slight advantage in negotiating if they leave it late until that deadline. Hence, Dortmund might have the chance to do so, although they must still pay a fee closer to that £35 million clause to acquire Maatsen in the summer.
