Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Chelsea midfield sensation Carney Chukwuemeka in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Carney Chukwuemeka is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions have revived their interest in the 20-year-old Chelsea midfielder heading into the summer transfer window.

Carney Chukwuemeka and his Chelsea travails

Carney Chukwuemeka has had to bide his time since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa in August 2022. The England youth international spent most of his formative years with Northampton Town before finishing his youth career at Aston Villa. And he rose in prominence during his spell with the West Midlands club, with several well-known Premier League outfits setting their sights on him.

Eventually, Chelsea won the race to secure Chukeuwmeka’s services nearly two years ago. However, fitness issues and a stacked midfield unit have meant that game time has come at a premium for the young prospect. The 20-year-old has managed only 254 minutes of action thus far this term across 12 outings in all competitions, chipping in with two goals and one assist.

However, despite not being a regular for Chelsea, Chukwuemeka’s stock remains high in the market. And the Englishman is a target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window, with the reigning La Liga champions reviving their interest in him.

Barcelona calling?

Barcelona’s interest in Carney Chukwuemeka is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a dynamic midfielder who can reprise various roles in the middle of the park. Several candidates, including Amadou Onana, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar heading into the summer transfer window

However, the Everton midfielder will cost a bomb and might be out of Barcelona’s financial reach. So, Chukwuemeka has now emerged as an alternative, with the reigning La Liga champions rekindling the potential move for the Chelsea midfield sensation.

But with the 20-year-old English midfielder having four more years left on his contract with Chelsea, he will not be a cheap acquisition. In addition, it is unclear if the Blues are ready to part ways with the youngster without giving him the opportunity to prove his worth. So, a summer deal will unlikely see the light of day.
