Barcelona trying to lower Amadou Onana asking price

La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly attempting to lower Everton’s asking price of Amadou Onana, a target for Arsenal.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Amadou Onana is the top target for Barcelona to bolster the midfield unit in the summer transfer window. But the reigning La Liga champions are not ready to shell out €60 million to sign the Everton midfielder. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old is also a target for Arsenal.

The Amadou Onana Story

Amadou Onana has been a top-notch performer for Everton since arriving from LOSC Lille in August 2022. The Belgian international has been one of the rare shining lights in two relegation-battling campaigns in as many seasons. His performances have also helped him break into his national team.

The 22-year-old has turned out 64 times thus far for Everton, chipping in with four goals and three assists. But Onana’s long-term future at the Merseyside club is uncertain, with several high-profile clubs keen on signing him. Barcelona and Arsenal are among the prospective suitors for the youngster.

Barcelona Keen on Onana

Barcelona’s interest in the former LOSC Lille midfielder is understandable. The Catalan giants are still in the market for a dynamic holding midfielder who can affect the gameplay in every phase. Oriol Romeu has failed to make his mark for Barcelona this term and will likely depart from the club in the summer transfer window.

So, it behoves the Blaugrana to invest in a defensive midfielder. Amadou Onana has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. But the reigning La Liga champions cannot afford to pay €60 million to secure his services and will look to reduce Everton’s asking price. But the presence of other clubs, including Arsenal, in the equation complicates matters.

Arsenal can potentially afford to pay €60 million to secure Onana’s signature in the summer transfer window. With Thomas Partey facing an uncertain future at the Emirates, the Everton midfielder is a viable target for Arsenal.

With Barcelona looking to reduce Everton’s asking price, a part-exchange deal can be an option. But it will be interesting to see if the Toffees are ready to reduce their valuation when they can recoup a higher sum from a fellow Premier League club.
