Real Madrid will reportedly compete with Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United for Nottingham Forest defender Murillo.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, Murillo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The 21-year-old has made a splash in the Premier League with his performances for Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, the youngster is also a target for other European bigwigs like Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Who is Murillo?

Murillo has been among the best young defenders in the Premier League this term. The Brazilian centre-back spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at four clubs and graduating from the Corinthians youth division. His first foray into Europe came last summer when he joined Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Nottingham Forest thus far this season. He has turned out 31 times across all competitions, including 27 appearances in the Premier League, providing two assists. Meanwhile, Murillo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

Big move on the horizon?

Barcelona might part ways with Inigo Martinez in the summer transfer window due to player registration issues. So, they might delve into the market for a left-footed centre-back. Murillo’s name has thus emerged on Barcelona’s wishlist heading into the summer transfer window. As for Chelsea, the West London club will likely part ways with Thiago Silva after the 2023/24 season.

In addition, Benoit Badiashile faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. So, the Nottingham Forest defender is a viable target for Chelsea. Meanwhile, Liverpool might part ways with Joel Matip this summer, meaning Murillo is an option worth considering. As for Manchester United, amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans, they need a replacement.

The 21-year-old Brazilian defender is a viable target for all three Premier League bigwigs. However, Real Madrid’s entry into the equation complicates matters for the other suitors. Nacho is well into his thirties, with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger also on the wrong side of 30. So, it behoves Real Madrid to sign a centre-back.

Murillo might not cost a bomb, especially if Nottingham Forest cannot avoid relegation. However, Barcelona might be at a disadvantage compared to cash-rich clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. But Chelsea and Manchester United might also have the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules to cater to this summer.
