Arsenal are prioritising a move for Martin Zubimendi ahead of the summer, as he could replace one of their departing midfielders.

According to Caught Offside, Arsenal could prioritise a move for Martin Zubimendi ahead of the summer, with Mikel Arteta intent on bringing a top midfielder. The 25-year-old La Liga star could potentially replace one current midfielder who could leave the Gunners in the close season.

Arsenal set sights on Martin Zubimendi

Mikel Arteta has a big decision ahead of the summer, as the Spaniard sees a top-draw midfielder to shore up his team. Martin Zubimendi has been a name that Arsenal have followed for some time, and the Gunners have repeatedly scouted the 25-year-old La Liga star recently.

He does feature highly on Arteta’s shortlist, which also consists of other big names. The Gunners are aware of his contract’s €60 million release clause, although some reports have stated they could negotiate the price down. Still, Real Sociedad are not planning to sell him for less.

Arsenal could also lose one of their current stars, Jorginho or Thomas Partey, with the latter attracting interest from Juventus. The former could remain at the club with Arsenal planning contract talks with the Italian, although he, too, has an interest in the Bianconeri ahead of the summer.

The Gunners are now prioritising a move for Zubimendi as they view the 25-year-old La Liga star as an ideal replacement for one of those existing stars. In hindsight, the Real Sociedad star, for his price, seems like the cheapest target among the other names Arsenal holds an interest in.

Who are Arsenal’s midfield targets?

Apart from Martine Zubimendi, Arsenal is also keen on several other names. Everton’s Amadou Onana is one of the players they like in the holding role, and besides Declan Rice, Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is also a target, but he might be too expensive for their taste.

With Arteta looking to revamp his midfield to another level, one of those, including Zubimendi, would be a fantastic addition to their future. Arteta has long-term plans for this squad and will want to bring one of those on priority, with the 25-year-old La Liga star currently at the top of the pile.
