Real Sociedad unwilling to sell Martin Zubimendi for less than €60 million

Real Sociedad will reportedly demand €60 million for Martin Zubimendi ahead of the summer, with Arsenal keen on the midfielder.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal may find it challenging to sign Martin Zubimendi for less than his €60 million asking price. The figure is the same as his current release clause, with Real Sociedad unwilling to sanction a move for less with the 25-year-old midfielder considered vital to their plans.

Real Sociedad will demand €60 million for Martin Zubimendi

Martin Zubimendi could be one of the biggest stories of the upcoming summer transfer window as the 25-year-old midfielder awaits a big move to another club. He has been suitable for Real Sociedad, a club he has grown up with.

In the past, the 25-year-old midfielder hesitated to move out, even when he reportedly had offers elsewhere. Zubimendi has a €60 million release clause in his contract at Real Sociedad, and the La Liga side are not willing to lower the asking price.

Liverpool are one of the sides keen, although the 25-year-old midfielder has had interest from Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal. The Gunners, in particular, have tracked the midfielder for a long time, even dating back to the January window of 2023, when they ended up signing Jorginho from Chelsea.

The Gunners have regularly scouted the midfielder and could put him at the top of their summer shopping list. Arsenal are also interested in Amadou Onana of Everton, with journalist Charles Watts commenting they might go for the Belgian over the Spaniard.

Can Arsenal sign Zubimendi?

The mechanism of a Spanish release clause does not involve conversations between interested parties. Instead, should Arsenal want Zubimendi, they must pay the entire fee to La Liga to release the player, something they have done in the past with Thomas Partey. In the 25-year-old midfielder’s case, Real Sociedad are open to negotiating, but only for a fee of €60 million.

Arsenal are already preparing a contract offer for Zubimendi, although their chances of bringing the fee down with Sociedad seem less plausible. Hence, should the Gunners want the midfielder, they must pay what is necessary as Mikel Arteta eyes fundamental midfield changes in the summer.
