Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly joined Bayern Munich in the race to sign 28-year-old Bayer Leverkusen full-back Alejandro Grimaldo.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Alejandro Grimaldo will be a hot property in the market heading into the summer transfer window. Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on signing the 28-year-old full-back, who has taken the Bundesliga by storm since joining Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

Alejandro Grimaldo: Taking the Bundesliga by storm

Alejandro Grimaldo has been an instant success at Bayer Leverkusen since arriving in a Bosman move last summer after his Benfica contract expired. The Spaniard did not take much time to hit the ground running, making an immediate impact for Die Werkself in an unprecedented campaign that has seen Xabi Alonso’s men go unbeaten across competitions thus far.

The 28-year-old has been among the most productive players in the world this season, scoring and assisting goals for fun. Grimaldo has contributed to 26 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions thus far this term, finding the back of the net 11 times while providing 15 assists.

The wing-back pairing Grimaldo and Jeremie Frimpong has been one of the biggest factors in Bayer Leverkusen dominating every competition under Xabi Alonso. So, it is hardly surprising that both full-backs are becoming hot properties in the market. The Spanish international has now piqued the attention of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Premier League Move on the cards?

Arsenal might delve into the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window. Jakub Kiwior faces an uncertain future at the Emirates, while Oleksandr Zinchenko has blown hot and cold in the last few weeks. While Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jurrien Timber can play as left-backs, Grimaldo will add a new dimension to the Arsenal gameplay.

As for Liverpool, Andrew Robertson is on the wrong side of 30. In addition, the Scottish full-back is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. So, it behoves Liverpool to scour the market for a left-back, with Alejandro Grimaldo emerging as a viable target. However, Arsenal and Liverpool face stiff competition from Bayern Munich for the 28-year-old Spanish full-back.

Recent reports have also linked the former Benfica star with Barcelona and Real Madrid. So, it will be interesting to see if Grimaldo leaves Bayer Leverkusen after only one season amid the links with Arsenal, Liverpool, and others.

More a left wingback than a leftback but a really quality wingback. His age and value is against him.
