Leeds United will reportedly prioritise completing a permanent move to sign 26-year-old Welsh defender Joe Rodon from Tottenham.

According to a report by Football Insider, Joe Rodon is the subject of interest from Leeds United over a permanent move in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old has been an excellent performer for the West Yorkshire club this season, and they will look to keep hold of him heading into the 2024/25 season.

Joe Rodon and his Leeds United success

Joe Rodon has finally resurrected his career at the club level after joining Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan deal last summer. A graduate of the Swansea City youth division, the Welsh international joined the North London club in a deal worth an initial £11 million.

However, the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not worked out, with the 26-year-old barely making a mark at the club. Rodon spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Stade Rennais before joining Leeds United last summer. And he has been a mainstay at the back for the Whites, turning out 41 times across all competitions thus far.

Rodon’s progress at Leeds United has not gone unnoticed, compelling the West Yorkshire club to seek a permanent move for the 45-cap Welsh international heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Tottenham will not stand in Leeds United’s way.

Permanent Leeds move on the horizon?

Leeds United’s interest in completing a permanent move for Joe Rodon is understandable. The 26-year-old has been an excellent performer at the heart of the defence this season. In addition, he has experience of playing in the Premier League, even though he did not stamp his authority while turning out for Tottenham.

So, Leeds United’s decision to prioritise completing a permanent move for Rodon makes sense. Meanwhile, the Welshman is keen on remaining at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window. And with Tottenham ready to entertain bids for the player, a summer move should see the light of day.

A permanent deal will unlikely cost a bomb, with Tottenham reportedly slapping a price tag of £10-15 million to permanently part ways with Rodon. A move to Leeds United is thus on the cards for the 45-cap Welsh international.
