Leeds United are reportedly keen on signing 26-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon on a permanent move.

According to a report from Football Insider Championship outfit Leeds United are keen on permanently signing Joe Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur. The 26-year-old could cost around £20 million.

Joe Rodon: What Does the Future Have in Store?

The Welsh international is currently on loan at Leeds, and he has been a key player for them so far. The defender has started 23 EFL Championship games for the Whites and helped them keep nine clean sheets.

Rodon failed to establish himself as a regular starter for Tottenham, and he was subsequently loaned out so that he can get regular game time. Tottenham paid £11 million to sign him from Swansea City in 2020, and they are now looking to make a substantial profit on him. It will be interesting to see if Leeds United decide to pay up £20 million for the 26-year-old.

Leeds are desperate to secure Premier League promotion, and they will need to keep their best players to finish the season strongly. They will be able to sign the Welshman at the end of the season as well, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Is a £20 million Fee a Worthy Investment?

Spending £20 million on the Tottenham defender might not be a wise idea right now. Leeds should look to improve the other areas of their squad and try to sign the Welsh international defender in the summer.

Also, it is quite difficult to see any club paying £20 million for a player who does not have a future at Tottenham. So, the North London outfit will have to be more reasonable with their demands.

Joe Rodon will be hoping to secure a permanent exit from the North London club at the end of the season. He will be aware of the fact that he does not have a future at Tottenham and therefore returning to the North London club only for another loan spell next season does not make sense.

The two parties will look to part ways in the coming months, and it remains to be seen where the 26-year-old defender ends up eventually. If Leeds can secure promotion to the Premier League, a permanent move to Elland Road would be ideal for him. Meanwhile, Tottenham remain in the market for a centre-back, with Ko Itakura featuring on their radar.
