Mikayil Faye is reportedly open to leaving Barcelona in the summer transfer window amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Mikayil Faye might leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window, only a year after arriving from Croatia. Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in signing the 19-year-old. And the teenage prospect is open to mulling over offers to leave the Catalan club.
Mikayil Faye and his Barcelona journey
Mikayil Faye has been an exceptional performer for Barcelona’s reserve side since arriving from NK Kustosija last summer. The Senegalese prospect spent most of his formative years in his homeland before joining NK Kustosija in February 2023. However, his stint in Croatia only last a few months.
The 19-year-old has had to suffice with representing Barcelona Atletic in the 2023/24 season and has yet to make his first-team debut for the Blaugrana. Faye has turned out 25 times thus far this term for Barcelona’s reserve side, chipping in with four goals. Meanwhile, his progress with the Catalan outfit has not gone unnoticed.
Faye recently made his international debut for Senegal, while high-profile clubs across Europe are closely monitoring his progress. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Chelsea and Manchester United vying for the youngster’s signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the cards?
Chelsea had been keen on signing Mikayil Faye last summer before he joined Barcelona. Small margins proved detrimental for the West London club. But they remain interested in the 19-year-old Senegalese international. And with Thiago Silva in the twilight of his career, Chelsea can sign Barcelona’s 2023 signing as a long-term successor to the veteran Brazilian.
As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are also scouring the market for a centre-back. Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof face an uncertain future at Old Trafford. So, it behoves Manchester United to invest in a top-class defender, with Faye emerging as a viable target. The Barcelona prospect is now open to considering offers to leave the club this summer.
Faye’s stance comes as a boost for Chelsea and Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the 19-year-old Barcelona wonderkid leaves the Catalan outfit after only one year.
