Newcastle United will reportedly look to bring former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez back to the Premier League this summer.

According to a report by Turkish outlet Damga Gazetesi, Davinson Sanchez is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are keen on signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window after losing Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles to long-term injuries. And they have already approached the 27-year-old former Tottenham defender over a possible move.

The Davinson Sanchez Tale

Davinson Sanchez endured a rollercoaster ride during his previous stint in the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur had shelled out a considerable sum of €42 million to sign him from Ajax in August 2017. But while the Colombian international was a highly-rated defensive prospect during his time in the Netherlands, he failed to fulfil his potential in England.

Sanchez’s spell with Tottenham ended last summer, with Galatasaray signing him in a deal worth €9.5 million. However, the move has not paid off as well as he would have liked, as he has managed 25 outings thus far, chipping in with three goals and two assists. However, the 27-year-old defender’s stock remains high in the transfer market.

The report by Damga Gazatesi has revealed that Serie A and Premier League clubs are keen on securing Sanchez’s services in the summer transfer window. Newcastle United are one of the prospective suitors of the South American defender, having already approached him over a possible move.

Premier League Return on the Cards?

Newcastle United will dip their toes in the market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window. The Magpies have lost Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles to long-term knee injuries, leaving Fabian Schar and Dan Burn as the only regular faces in Eddie Howe’s squad. With both defenders on the wrong side of 30, Newcastle United can do with a new centre-back.

Several candidates, including Lloyd Kelly, have thus emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Davinson Sanchez also being a viable target. With the Tyneside outfit already approaching the 27-year-old South American defender, a summer move might be on the cards.

Sanchez might return to the Premier League in the summer transfer window after spending only one season in Turkey. But it will be interesting to see if a move to Serie A materialises instead of Newcastle United.
