La Liga title challengers Girona will reportedly look to sign 34-year-old Spanish international striker Joselu in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Joselu is the subject of interest from Girona. The White and Reds are keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window. The Spanish international attacker has thus emerged as a viable target, with Real Madrid considering a permanent move.

Joselu and his Real Madrid journey

Joselu has continued his excellent run of form since joining Real Madrid on loan from Espanyol. The 34-year-old has blossomed into a goal machine in the last half a decade, with his return to Spain reinvigorating his career. He was exceptional for Deportivo Alaves and Espanyol.

But Joselu’s excellent 2023/24 campaign with Real Madrid has been surprising, considering his status as a backup striker. The Spanish international has only managed 1,618 minutes of game time across 39 outings in all competitions, starting just 13 matches. However, the veteran striker has a remarkable tally of 13 goals and three assists.

Joselu’s progress with Real Madrid has not gone unnoticed, and his advancing age is not deterring prospective suitors. Recent reports have linked the Spaniard with Manchester United, with the Red Devils keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window. The experienced attacker has now emerged as a target for Girona.

Girona Interested

Girona will delve into the market for a top-class and prolific striker heading into the summer transfer window. Artem Dovbyk has been exceptional throughout the 2023/24 campaign, leading the Catalan club’s charge in La Liga for the title. However, the Ukrainian international’s exploits have earned him interest from several well-known clubs.

So, with Dovbyk facing an uncertain future at Estadi Montilivi due to the emerging interest, it behoves Girona to scour the market for a striker. Joselu has thus emerged as a viable target, with the White and Reds ready to compete with Real Madrid for his signature.

However, a summer move might not be on the cards, with the 34-year-old keen on continuing his stint with Real Madrid by permanently joining Los Blancos in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Manchester United will unlikely throw in the towel easily. It will be interesting to see if a deal sees the light of day for Girona.
