Barcelona will not pursue a move for Joshua Kimmich in the summer transfer window, clearing the way for Chelsea and Manchester United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Joshua Kimmich is the subject of interest from Barcelona. But the Blaugrana will not pursue his signature in the summer transfer window and will instead look to secure his services in 2025. The update has cleared the way for other suitors like Chelsea and Manchester United to sign the €60 million-rated Bayern Munich midfielder.

Joshua Kimmich and his 2023/24 frustrations

Joshua Kimmich has endured a topsy-turvy ride thus far this term at Bayern Munich. Thomas Tuchel does not view the 29-year-old as a holding midfielder and has utilised him as a right-back. That has rubbed the player the wrong way, which does not bode well for Bayern Munich, considering he has entered the final 18 months of his contract.

The German international has turned out 378 times thus far for Bayern Munich, chipping in with 41 goals and 102 assists. But his contract situation and unsettled nature at the Allianz Arena means a summer exit might be on the cards. Such an update has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United.

A Man in Demand

Widespread reports have claimed that Kimmich is a priority target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. The Catalan club’s interest is understandable, considering Sergio Busquets has left a gaping hole in the midfield unit since joining Inter Miami last summer. But Barcelona will not pursue the Bayern Munich utility man until the 2025 summer transfer window.

The development has come as a boost for Chelsea and Manchester United, especially with Bayern Munich reportedly being open to selling the 29-year-old this summer. Chelsea’s interest in Joshua Kimmich is somewhat perplexing, although he will be an upgrade on every midfielder at Stamford Bridge.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils need a long-term replacement for Casemiro, who faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford. The Brazilian international has shown signs of age catching up to him. So, Kimmich is a viable target. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester United should have the funds to afford to pay €60 million to secure his services.

With Barcelona not pursuing Kimmich’s signature in the summer transfer window, Chelsea and Manchester United have a clear run at the 29-year-old German international. It will be interesting to see if he lands in the Premier League this summer.
