Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Spanish international Ferran Torres from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ferran Torres is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The West London club will likely delve into the market for an attacking reinforcement heading into the summer transfer window. The Barcelona attacker has thus emerged as a viable target for them.

Ferran Torres and his Barcelona Journey

Ferran Torres has been in and out of the starting lineup since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in a deal worth €55 million in January 2022. While the Spaniard has shown flashes of brilliance in the last two years, he has not justified the heavy investment in him.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2023/24 campaign thus far, amassing 11 goals and four assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. That is an excellent record, considering the player has managed less than 1,700 minutes of game time. However, Torres faces an uncertain future at FC Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window.

With Barcelona looking to complete a permanent move for Joao Felix and Lamine Yamal constantly rising in stature, Raphinha and Torres have reached a crossroads in their respective stints with the Catalan outfit. They will likely share game time next season, while the reigning La Liga champions also need to sell a few high-value assets to balance their books. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of well-known clubs, including Chelsea.

Chelsea Want Torres

Chelsea’s interest in Ferran Torres is somewhat surprising. The Blues have invested heavily in attackers during the Todd Boehly-led era. But a closer look reveals that hardly any offensive player has lived up to the billing. So, Chelsea can do with an upgrade on most of the current forwards in the squad.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling faces an uncertain future at Chelsea, even though he is happy and content at Stamford Bridge. Torres has thus emerged as a viable target for the West London club. And Barcelona can potentially demand close to the €55 million they paid to sign him from Manchester City.

The Spanish international has previous experience in the Premier League and should hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge. This season has also shown that he can be a prolific customer in the final third. But Chelsea might face stiff competition for the Barcelona star’s services, with reports linking him with other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.
