Real Madrid had scouts present in the game between Manchester City and Newcastle United to watch Bruno Guimaraes.

According to Graeme Bailey on HITC, Bruno Guimaraes is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are in the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. And they ran the rule over the 26-year-old Newcastle United talisman in the FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.

Bruno Guimaraes and his Newcastle Journey

Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United from Lyon in January 2022. The Brazilian international made an immediate impact at St. James’ Park, helping Newcastle United evade relegation and nearly clinch a top-half finish in the 2021/22 season.

Things improved considerably in the 2022/23 campaign, as he established himself as a talismanic figure for Newcastle United. The Tyneside outfit finished in the top four to return to the UEFA Champions League after several years. But the 26-year-old and Newcastle United have blown hot and cold this term.

While Guimaraes remains a mainstay in the middle of the park with 40 outings and ten goal contributions (three strikes and seven assists), he has not been as consistent. And Newcastle United might miss out on European football altogether amid high-octane competition for the top-seven spots. Nevertheless, his stock remains high, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

Real Madrid Calling?

Real Madrid’s interest in Bruno Guimaraes is understandableLos Blancos will likely part ways with Luka Modric in the summer transfer window, with Toni Kroos also facing an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a midfielder who can be a long-term successor to the duo.

The Newcastle United mainstay has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. And the Spanish outfit had dispatched scouts to watch the 26-year-old against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. While Newcastle lost the game, the Brazilian international gave a good account of himself.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United might be open to cashing in on Guimaraes amid their struggles to comply with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules. So, it will be interesting to see if a move to Real Madrid is on the cards for the former Lyon midfielder.
