Newcastle United could ponder selling Bruno Guimaraes in the summer to boost their transfer kitty for the next window.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United could sell Bruno Guimaraes to fund new signings in the summer window. A host of clubs will pounce on the opportunity, although many interested parties may still see his £100 million asking price as a problem.

Newcastle United to sell Bruno Guimaraes?

Newcastle United have dramatically tailed off from their fourth-place finish last season and are now potentially staring at finishing outside European places this term. The Magpies have had injury issues, but their overall performances have been abysmal at best, which could have ramifications.

The Magpies are already on the edge of FFP problems, as they might have to sell some notable names to balance their books. They might add Bruno Guimaraes to that equation, as Newcastle United are aware of the massive interest in the Brazilian midfielder.

The Magpies might want a sizeable buyer for the 26-year-old midfielder, who has some top-notch clubs ready to pay well to sign him. Newcastle United could then use the funds to bring in three or four players in the summer window to strengthen their squad in multiple areas.

For instance, they are vying for a new centre-back, striker and potentially at least two midfielders, which could become three if Guimaraes departs. In any case, should the 26-year-old, then Newcastle United might look at revamping their midfield altogether with a few homegrown stars like Lewis Miley and Sean Longstaff likely to remain here for another season at the very least.

Who are interested in Bruno Guimaraes?

Guimaraes does have some high-profile clubs chasing his signature, but his reported or rumoured £100 million release clause may narrow the choices down to one or two sides. Barcelona and PSG are keen, as the links to the former have been rife in recent months, although it’s difficult to see the Catalans able to pay that much money for one player.

Manchester City are also keen, with Pep Guardiola not satisfied with the club’s recruitment of midfielders last summer in the wake of Ilkay Gundogan’s departure. He would like to view the 26-year-old Guimaraes as someone who could strengthen their middle areas and partner with Rodri for the longer term.
