West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Belgian-born Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar from Serie A club AS Roma.

According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Mile Svilar is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are in the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window amid the advancing years of Lukasz Fabianski. The 24-year-old AS Roma goalkeeper has thus emerged as a target.

Who is Mile Svilar?

Mile Svilar has not had the world-beating career his talent promised when he broke onto the scene at Benfica. A native of Antwerpen, he graduated from the RSC Anderlecht youth division before rising in prominence at Benfica. However, the Belgian-born goalkeeper could not become the resounding first-choice goalkeeper at the Portuguese club, leaving as a free agent in 2022.

AS Roma snapped him up in July 2022, and the player has been an able deputy to Rui Patricio since then. But the 24-year-old has made his mark in the UEFA Europa League thus far this term. Svilar has turned out 15 times across all competitions, with nine appearances coming in the Europa League, where he has kept four clean sheets while conceding six goals.

Svilar’s progress this season at the Serie A club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. The report by Gazzetta dello Sport suggests he might be on his way to the Premier League, with West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers vying for his signature.

West Ham Keen

West Ham United’s interest in Mile Svilar is understandable. While Alphonse Areola has done well this term, he is on the wrong side of 30. But more importantly, Lukasz Fabianski is in the twilight of his career and might not be at the club for many years.

Several goalkeepers, including Aaron Ramsdale, have thus emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Svilar also being a viable target. But Wolverhampton Wanderers stand in the Hammers’ way as they look to sign a young and highly-rated goalkeeper this summer.

Meanwhile, Svilar is not the only AS Roma player on West Ham’s radar. They also have their eyes set on the Serie A club for Edoardo Bove. So, it will be interesting to see if the Hammers land multiple players from the Giallorossi in the summer transfer window.
