Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly contacted Jose Maria Orobitg, the agent of 22-year-old Spanish defender Mika Marmol.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Mika Marmol is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions have contacted the Spanish defender’s agent, Jose Maria Orobtig. And Barcelona will closely monitor the situation as they will benefit from a deal involving the young centre-back.

Who is Mika Marmol?

Mika Marmol has established himself as one of the best young defenders in La Liga since joining UD Las Palmas. The 22-year-old is a native of Terrassa and graduated from Barcelona’s fabled La Masia division, also representing three other clubs during his youth career. But he reached his ceiling as a regular for Barcelona Atletic and needed to leave the club to kick-start his career.

The Spaniard thus rightly left Barcelona in August 2022, with FC Andorra signing him in August 2022. UD Las Palmas came calling a year later, and he has gone from strength to strength at the club. Marmol has turned out 26 times thus far this season in La Liga, chipping in with an assist.

Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress at UD Las Palmas has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Recent reports have pointed to Girona being interested in the Spanish defender, with Barcelona believing Manchester City will help the high-flying Catalan outfit sign him. But the Premier League champions are also interested.

Premier League Calling?

The report has claimed that the treble winners have contacted the 22-year-old’s agent, Jose Maria Orobitg. The narrative from MARCA suggests Manchester City might look to bring Mika Marmol to the Etihad. But it also mentions the possibility of City loaning or selling him to Girona.

Either way, Barcelona will benefit if Marmol leaves Las Palmas on a permanent transfer. The reigning La Liga champions will receive a portion of the sale, meaning they are closely monitoring the situation to see if the Spaniard leaves Las Palmas.

For now, Manchester City and Girona are keen on signing Marmol. It will be interesting to see if the Premier League champions actually want the 22-year-old Spanish defender, considering they have a stacked defensive unit.
