Arsenal could scout Manchester United attacking target Donyell Malen in key games for Borussia Dortmund ahead of a potential summer approach.

According to Give Me Sport, Arsenal could consider an approach for former player Donyell Malen as they are set to scout the attacker more extensively. The Gunners are about to send observers to watch the Dutchman, valued at £26 million,  ahead of some key games for Borussia Dortmund before making a decision. He is also a target for Manchester United.

Arsenal to scout Donyell Malen?

Arsenal are in the market for a wide attacker with versatile qualities and have narrowed their search to several players. Some of those are already considered top talents and will add value to Mikel Arteta’s side, although the Spaniard is keen to get the decision right rather than wasting money on someone who is not suitable.

As part of their list, they have Manchester United target Donyell Malen on their radar. The Gunners are set to send scouts to watch the £26 million-rated forward in crucial games against Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bayern Munich. Based on what they observe, Arsenal might decide to approach in the summer.

Manchester United also explored a move in January but did not take it any further. There were suggestions they wanted Malen as part of the Jadon Sancho loan deal. But eventually, Erik ten Hag decided against bringing in anyone. Borussia Dortmund, for their part, are open to selling him for £26 million despite some reports suggesting they wanted much more for the Dutchman.

Malen has a history with Arsenal, having played for their youth teams before his switch to PSV Eindhoven. The Bundesliga forward boasts better statistics since the turn of the year compared to some of the other targets linked with the Gunners ahead of the summer. Should the North Londoners make a sizeable approach, Malen might end up choosing them over other suitors due to his previous connection.

Who are Arsenal’s other winger targets?

Pedro Neto remains a crucial target for Arsenal, although his £80 million valuation, along with his recent injury history, could prove problematic. Athletic Club’s Nico Williams is also admired and has a considerably lesser valuation compared to the Wolves star.

The report also names Michael Olise as a potential target, and he, too, might have a cheaper price than Neto. Among these names, Malen is the most affordable option. Should Arsenal make a move, some might see him as the ideal signing, considering the Gunners might want to invest heavily in a midfielder and a striker later in the summer window.
