Manchester United are reportedly among the front-runners to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, a target for Arsenal and Chelsea.

According to a report by The Independent, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Arsenal and Chelsea are also keen on landing the Napoli striker. But the Red Devils and Paris Saint-Germain are the front-runners to sign the Nigerian international in the summer transfer window.

The Rise and Rise of Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has established himself as one of the best players in the world in the last four years. A native of Lagos, the 25-year-old his formative years in his homeland before arriving in Europe in 2017. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, rising in prominence during his spells with VfL Wolfsburg and LOSC Lille.

But his stock has skyrocketed since joining Napoli in a deal worth €75 million in September 2020. The 25-year-old has been a talismanic figure for the Partenopei in the last three and a half years. Osimhen helped deliver the Serie A title last season and has been a rare bright spot for his team this term amid the struggles to defend the crown. He has 13 goals and four assists in 22 outings thus far.

But Osimhen’s long-term Napoli future is uncertain due to a release clause worth €110 million in his new contract. Such a development has piqued the interest of several high-profile clubs. And a move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United keen on signing him.

Premier League Calling?

Arsenal and Chelsea have tracked the 25-year-old for a long time and have traded blows pursuing him. Arsenal can do with a prolific striker amid Gabriel Jesus’s struggles to be prolific in the final third. As for Chelsea, the Blues lack a productive attacker in the first-team squad and need a world-class centre-forward.

But Arsenal and Chelsea are falling behind in the chase, with the report claiming Manchester United are the front-runners to land Victor Osimhen. The Red Devils need someone to compete with Rasmus Hojlund instead of usurping him as the first-choice striker. But Manchester United are not one to snub an opportunity to sign a player like Osimhen.

However, overcoming the challenge of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules might be tough. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can beat Arsenal and Chelsea to Osimhen’s signature.
