Chelsea are preparing a move for top target Victor Osimhen as they might have to trigger the €130 million release clause in his contract.

According to Calcio Mercato, Chelsea are ready to move for Victor Osimhen and will have to trigger the release clause for the €130 million-rated attacker. Napoli are resigned to losing their star striker although they will not entertain offers less than his exit clause.

Chelsea are preparing a move for Victor Osimhen

Chelsea’s name has been linked with Victor Osimhen in the last few months, and the striker might end up moving to Stamford Bdirge over other destinations. There’s a growing understanding that the Napoli star wants to emulate his idol Didier Drogba and would reportedly prefer a switch to the Blues over other clubs.

The Premier League giants have been seeking a top-draw No.9 since last summer and may have decided not to spend in January to splash the money on Osimhen in the summer. The €130 million-rated attacker has a release clause, and Chelsea must trigger it to sign the Napoli star.

Chelsea have discussed a move with either Osimhen’s camp or people connected with Napoli. Either way, should they trigger his €130 million release clause, there’s little the Serie A side can do about it, although should the Blues try and negotiate, Napoli can rebuff all attempts from the Blues.

With Osimhen also keen on joining Chelsea, the club’s pathway seems clear despite rivals’ growing interest. The Blues are now ready to make their move for the Nigerian international, with talks likely to take place to finalise terms with Napoli and the €130 million-rated attacker.

Chelsea will still face competition

On paper, Chelsea may have a clear shot at Osimhen, although in truth, time can change many things that are presently deemed favourable. For instance, PSG is keen to bring in a big name to replace Kylian Mbappe. The Nigerians are a big target, and the Parisians have enormous resources to cover his release clause and offer the Napoli man a massive salary.

Then there are Arsenal, who have an advantage over Chelsea due to their guarantee of Champions League football next season. Should Osimhen start thinking along those lines of continental competitions, among other things, the striker might slip away from Chelsea’s grasp.
