Arsenal may have a significant advantage over Chelsea in the race for Victor Osimhen, although things will depend on the Gunners’ ability to pay.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Arsenal may have a massive advantage over Chelsea in the race for Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer. The Napoli star is pencilled in to join a big club in the next window, as the Gunners will look at him as an opportunistic signing, provided they can afford him.

Arsenal have an advantage in Victor Osimhen’s race.

For the better part of this season, pundits and fans have called for Mikel Arteta to sign a prolific striker after the Gunners failed to show last season’s fluid form in the attacking third. Yet, nobody is talking about that ‘much needed’ centre-forward following their blistering start to 2024, having scored 221 times in their five league games this calendar year.

However, Arteta might fancy a new centre-forward in the summer should he decide to bring another option to change the dynamics a bit. Victor Osimhen features on Arsenal’s list of that new striker, as the Napoli star will likely leave Serie A for a new challenge.

Chelsea are also stepping up their game for the 25-year-old, as a report suggested they are willing to pay the €130 million release clause and get ahead of their rivals. However, the Gunners may have an advantage over the Blues, as they can offer Champions League football next season.

For a player of Osimhen’s stature, playing in the top-tier European competition will be a must, and he might prefer clubs in the tournament. Hence, while Chelsea has an enormous appeal for African stars like the Nigerian, they might face that unique competition from Arsenal, who can offer Champions League football. However, any move from the Gunners will depend on their ability to afford the 25-year-old Chelsea target.

PSG could pose a massive threat to Arsenal and Chelsea.

While Arsenal may have found themselves in a unique situation when competing with Chelsea for Osimhen, there may be better favourites for the striker. PSG are interested and ready to rival the London giants for the 25-year-old Napoli star.

PSG are about to lose Kylian Mbappe in the summer, and eye Osimhen as his replacement. They are also rumoured to target Rafael Leao as an additional attacker alongside Nigerian, as the Parisians might pose a significant threat to those hopeful London sides.
