Chelsea are keen on improving their attacking options by signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

A report from TEAMtalk has claimed that Chelsea will face competition from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign 25-year-old Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world, and he helped Napoli win the league title last season, scoring 31 goals across all competitions. He will cost around £111 million due to a release clause in his contract.

He could solve Chelsea’s goalscoring problems if the Blues manage to secure his services. However, PSG are also looking for a world-class attacker to replace Kylian Mbappe, who has already informed the club that he wants to leave in the summer.

PSG certainly have more financial resources compared to Chelsea, and they have a more ambitious squad and project at their disposal. The Nigerian international could be attracted to the idea of playing for them next season.

PSG will be the favourites to sign Osimhen

Chelsea are going through a rough patch right now, and they are unlikely to be able to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. Attracting the best players in the world without Champions League football can prove to be quite difficult.

Also, Chelsea will have their own financial limitations after spending freely in the recent windows. They will have to comply with the financial regulations and might not be able to spend a substantial amount of money like £111 million without selling some players.

Chelsea will need to bring in a reliable striker to get back to the top of English football once again. Nicolas Jackson has been largely underwhelming, and he is unlikely to solve Chelsea’s goalscoring issues in the coming months.

Signing Osimhen would be a major coup for Chelsea, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done. The striker has a £111 million release clause in his Napoli contract and any club hoping to sign him will have to pay up.

PSG should be able to pay that amount without any problems, and they will be able to offer the player Champions League football next season as well. They will certainly be better placed to sign Osimhen at the end of the season.
