Chelsea and Liverpool are in pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong and ready to rival Real Madrid for the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back.
According to Fichajes, Real Madrid faces the threat of Chelsea and Liverpool in the race for Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch wing-back will come high in demand after an exceptional season with Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, as he is set to follow on to a more significant challenge in his career.
Chelsea and Liverpool rival Real Madrid for Jeremie Frimpong
One of the highlights of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side is the usage of wing-backs in that system. Both Jeremie Frimpong and Alejandro Grimaldo are having dream seasons, with the pair contributing to 19 and 21 goals, respectively, in all competitions for the Bundesliga leaders.
Frimpong is the younger of those two, and a lot of top clubs are already circling for his signature ahead of the summer window. Real Madrid were interested ahead of the January window, but there was no chance for the wing-back to depart in that month.
Chelsea were also keen, but they might now come join the race for the Dutch wing-back as they certainly have shortages on the right-hand side of the defence. Reece James has not played much due to persistent injury issues, while Malo Gusto remains unconvincing so far.
Chelsea might face the threat of Liverpool, who are also keeping close tabs on Frimpong’s situation. The Merseysiders do not have a particular need for a player who fits in only one position, where they currently have Trent Alexander-Arnold occupying that right-back slot.
Hence, while Liverpool are a top contender for the Dutchman, they might see him as something other than a necessity. However, with Alexander-Arnold slated for a midfield role, Jeremie Frimpong is an intriguing target
Jeremie Frimpong to make future call
Amid all the talk about Liverpool’s wish to add Xabi Alonso to their team, the rumours linking Frimpong with the Anfield side may have some legs. Considering how effective a player he has been under the Spaniard, there are chances for him to come here.
He also hinted at being open to a move to Liverpool, although other suitors like Chelsea and Real Madrid will also put in a fight to secure him. One way or another, Jeremie Frimpong appears destined to leave Leverkusen in the summer for a more significant challenge, as he would certainly hope to depart as a Bundesliga champion.
