Real Madrid will reportedly be happy to cough up €40 million to sign Jeremie Frimpong, who will be Dani Carvajal’s long-term successor.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jeremie Frimpong is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues view the Bayer Leverkusen full-back as a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal. And they are willing to shell out €40 million to sign the Dutchman in the 2024 summer transfer window.

The Jeremie Frimpong Story at Bayer Leverkusen

Jeremie Frimpong has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen. A prodigious talent when he arrived from Celtic in January 2021, he has come leaps and bounds in the last three years, becoming a pivotal figure for Die Werkself.

The 23-year-old has played an instrumental role in Bayer Leverkusen’s rise under Xabi Alonso. He has contributed to 17 goals in 22 appearances this season, finding the back of the net seven times and providing ten assists. Meanwhile, Frimpong’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs.

Recent reports have linked him with several Premier League bigwigs, including Chelsea and Liverpool. But Frimpong’s next destination might be Real Madrid, with Los Blancos scouring the market for a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal.

Frimpong to Succeed Dani Carvajal?

The Spanish international is well into his thirties and approaching the final phase of his glittering career. In addition, Carvajal’s performance levels have dropped in the last few seasons, with his advancing age and fitness issues hampering him. Jeremie Frimpong has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid ahead of the 2024 summer transfer window.

The latest report has revealed that the Merengues are willing to fork out €40 million to secure his services. That is coincidentally the release clause in the 23-year-old full-back’s contract. So, Real Madrid’s decision to pay the sum to secure Frimpong’s services should take them to the front of the queue to land him.

While Frimpong’s best utilisation is as a wing-back, Carlo Ancelotti can mask his defensive deficiencies with the appropriate system. So, it will be interesting to see if a deal worth €40 million sees the light of day for Real Madrid.
