Jeremie Frimpong has hinted he would be open to joining Liverpool amid linking his Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso to the Anfield job.

Jurgen Klopp’s announcement to leave Liverpool has given rise to rumours and counter-rumours concerning his potential replacement. Many candidates are linked with the job, with Xabi Alonso the current favourite to take over at his former club.

Alonso has had a fantastic season with Bayer Leverkusen, remaining unbeaten in the Bundesliga and some eight points ahead of reigning champion Bayern Munich. The Leverkusen side has plenty of talent, and one of them is Jeremie Frimpong, who has had 19 goal contributions this season in all competitions.

The wing-back has seven goals and as many assists in the Bundesliga, as his attacking style has already gained plenty of high-profile suitors. Manchester United are interested, while others like Real Madrid and Chelsea are also keeping tabs.

With Liverpool optimistic about landing Alonso, so they could also have the chance to sign Frimpong. The attacking wing-back would be open to a move to Anfield should the opportunity arise, as his comments on Soccer News suggest he would explore such an opportunity.

Reflecting on his current season at Leverkusen Frimpong, he said, “We haven’t lost yet this season. But yes, football is changeable, we have to keep concentration. We all trust the coach and know we can do something big this season. We all want to win a trophy, and the coach helps with his playing style,”

He was further asked about Liverpool in light of Alonso’s links with the Merseysiders. He hinted at being open to joining them in the future. He continued, “Liverpool? Great club with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring.”

As things stand, many clubs, including Arsenal, are interested in Frimpong. However, Liverpool does not have an active interest in the Dutchman, as they have Trent Alexander-Arnold in that position, and may not find space in the squad for a player of Frimpong’s quality.

Hence, while adding Alonso in the dugout might bring all sorts of counter-rumours about Leverkusen players wanting to join Liverpool, they do not have a position for Frimpong. He could play a significant role at some other club, like Manchester United or Chelsea, who are crying out for a player of the Dutchman’s quality and talent.
